Kampala CHAPTER

Uganda, affectionately known as the Pearl of Africa, is a land of extraordinary beauty, youthful energy, and deep spirituality. More than three-quarters of its population are under the age of thirty, making it one of the most youthful nations on Earth. From its vibrant communities to its growing engagement with science and technology, Uganda offers fertile ground for conversations about faith, human flourishing, and the future of life itself. The Mormon Transhumanist Association couldn't have found a more fitting home.
The founding of the Kampala Chapter began with a moment of digital serendipity. In mid-2024, Keneth Isabirye stumbled upon a LinkedIn post from Jonathan Bolonda. His mind immediately latched on to Bolonda’s affiliation with the Assocation. Though already familiar with the broader transhumanist movement, Keneth was intrigued by the idea of a community that integrated the principles of Latter-day Saint faith with a serious, forward-looking engagement with technoscience. Religious transhumanism was a novel concept to him.
Out of sheer curiosity, he decided to reach out to the Association via its website. His simple inquiry soon turned into an invitation by the regional leadership, who essentially charged him with the daunting task of gathering a local group in Kampala; which he did. The first official MTA meetup in Uganda took place around September of 2024.
What began as a small gathering has since evolved into a haven for postsecular engagement, bridge-building, and intellectual growth. For the Kampala Chapter, science and religion are anything but unlikely bedfellows; they are allies. The future envisioned by the founders of the Mormon Transhumanist Association is already taking shape in this vibrant city, one conversation at a time.
